Privacy policy: personal weather alerts
Effective September 26, 2026. Applies to the free weather alert service at this site, delivered by email, Facebook Messenger or Instagram direct message.
What we collect
- The location you give us (a ZIP code or city and state). We turn it into the matching NWS county and forecast zone and an approximate point. We never ask for a street address.
- How to reach you: your email address, or the Messenger / Instagram ID that Meta gives us when you message our Page. We do not receive your name, phone number, friends or other profile data.
- Your alert choices (warning types, watches, morning brief, rain chance, delivery time) and when you last messaged us.
- A record of which alerts we sent you, so the same warning is not sent twice.
How we use it
Only to send the weather alerts and morning briefs you asked for, and to answer your messages about them. We do not sell, rent or share your information, and we do not use it for advertising. Email is sent through Mailgun; Messenger and Instagram messages are sent through Meta's platform. Both act only as delivery services.
How long we keep it
While you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your settings are kept until you ask us to delete them. On Messenger or Instagram, START can restore delivery; for email, sign up again. Unconfirmed email signups and unused signup codes are removed within 48 hours.
Deleting your data
- Messenger or Instagram: send DELETE to the Page or account. Your location, settings and alert history are erased immediately.
- Email: use the unsubscribe link in any alert, then email Zachary@ohhailna.com with the subject "Delete my alert data" and we will erase it within 7 days.
- Stop alerts anytime: on Messenger or Instagram, reply STOP; for email, use the unsubscribe link in an alert email.
Important
Alerts come from official National Weather Service data, but this is not an official warning source. Always follow the NWS and local officials, and keep another way to get warnings, such as Wireless Emergency Alerts or a NOAA Weather Radio.

Website action counts
We count selected website actions by day: opening coverage, radar or signup, clicking a YouTube subscription link, visiting the supporter preview, and following affiliate links. These counters store the action name, day and count, without a visitor ID, location, email address or destination URL. They do not prove a YouTube subscription or purchase. Signup confirmation is measured separately by the alert service.
